The Moto1 Motorcycles KTM Team traversed the country on the 2000 km journey to Gillman, South Australia for Round 3 of the Penrite ProMX Championship. Eager to get on the sandy Gillman race track, the MX3 Trio of Team riders looked to shine in the Gillman Sunshine.

A great start to the day saw the #621 of Deacon Paice topping the timing board in his qualifying group, making his intentions clear from the onset of the day.

In a vast improvement from the opening Rounds, Zac O’Loan set a strong Qualifying lap time, placing him in 7th in his group.

Jett Williams would round out the team Qualifying in 17th place following an unfortunate big crash in the opening laps of the timed session.

Deacon Paice would lead the charge for the Moto1 KTM Motorcycles Team, cementing his place as a Championship contender in MX3. Would two incredible starts, claiming the WP Holeshot award and riding to 3-4 Moto Scores for a joint 3rd overall (but caming 4th on the countback), Paice now moves to 4th in the Championship standings, 8 points shy of the Red Plate.

“It was a tough day and although we bagged great points, I left some on the table. I didn’t feel comfortable on the track at times but I was very happy to get on the podium in the first moto”, commented Paice.

Zac O’loan left Gillman with positives after a tough opening 2 Rounds of the Championship. With a season best 15th place in Moto 1 and qualifying in 7th place from his Group, confidence is building for the young Queensland rider as he would finish in 20th overall for Round 3.

Although giving his all, a crash in qualifying led to poor track position early in Moto 1 for the #49 of Jett Williams and another fall in the opening laps led to eventual retirement from the days racing with no serious injury.

“Today was full of ups and downs”, commented Shane Fretwell, Moto1 Motorcycles KTM Team owner.

“That’s MX3 racing though. Deacon has been solid and consistent and logging the results he needs to be a Championship contender down the stretch of the season. Zac had a great day even though the results may not show it, he really improved today and for Jett, crashes are a part of racing and he will be back”, concluded Fretwell.

The Moto1 Motorcycles KTM Team now heads to Toowoomba, QLD on May 11th and 12th for Round 4 of the Sunshine State MX Series.
