Darci Whalley Scores 10th Overall In MXW International Field At ProMX Wonthaggi
Moto1 Motorcycles KTM Development Team rider Darci Whalley rode to a fantastic 10th Overall in the MXW Class at the Opening Round of the 2025 ProMX Championship.
Combining domestic and international riders from the Nations competing in the FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup, Whalley fought hard against some of the best female riders in the world in the rough sands of Wonthaggi.
Competing across a four moto format over the weekend, Whalley was able to log consistent laps and stay out of trouble in the highly competitive MXW and FIM field.
After claiming the Holeshot in Moto 1, Whalley would push to 9-11 finishes in the MXW class points scoring races, en route to 10th Overall for Wonthaggi.
“This was a great experience racing with some of the elite female racers in the world. In only my second year as a senior racer I learned a lot seeing the American girls ride, especailly in the opening moto when I got the holeshot and was able to run up front in the opening laps.”
“My results had me inside the top 5 for the Australian competitors which is where I should be this season, so it’s a great start to the year. Thanks to Moto1 Motorcycles for their continued support with my National racing in 2025”, commented Whalley.
Darci Whalley and the Moto1 Motorcycles KTM Development Team now focus on Round 3 of the Sunshine State Motocross Championships, taking place at Warwick on the weekend of April 5th and 6th.
Winner Triumph Racing Australia Completes Opening Round Of ProMX Championship
WONTHAGGI, AUSTRALIA
The Winner Triumph Racing Australia Team completed the opening round of the 2025 ProMX Championship at Wonthaggi, with valuable race experience across both MX1 and MX2 classes. As a home event for the team, support was huge from the local fans, as the All-New Triumph RC-450 hit the track with riders Jack Simpson and Seth Jackson for the first time in ProMX competition.
Jack Simpson, returning to Australian competition after years racing Off-Road in America, finished 21st Overall in the premier MX1 Class. Despite the challenging result, Simpson remains confident in his progression. Landing in 21st Overall, Jack is confident of the work ahead in regaining his speed and intensity in Motocross.
“I knew today would be tough, but I struggled across myself out there and also getting the bike where I wanted it. That’s to be expected with this being our first race, I’m not worried as I know what needs to be done before Appin and after a few more Rounds I know I can be in the mix inside the Top 10 with the other Factory riders”, commented Simpson.
A career best for Seth Jackson in MX1 saw the young Victorian edging closer to scoring points each moto, which will be the goal for Appin in the coming weeks.
In the MX2 Class, Thynan Kean demonstrated the potential of the Triumph TF250-X, running inside the top 10 placings in both motos on his way to 15th overall. With a day best 12th position, Kean is excited to keep things moving leaving Wonthaggi.
“I rode great in both motos but unfortunately towards the end of moto 1 we had a flat tyre, which with the big holes and square edges can happen. It was nice to rebound in moto 2 for 12th, I had a great time with the team today and we have an amazing group of people around us”, said Kean.
Connar Adams delivered consistent rides in MX2, narrowly missing out on the points scoring positions and Overall top 20, with results that did not fully reflect his speed and potential on the day.
With the Opening Round of ProMX in the books, the Winner Triumph Racing Australia Team have established a much-needed base to further test and develop the Triumph RC-450, as valuable race data will assist in progress for Appin in the coming weeks.
The Winner Triumph Racing Australia Team now focus their attention on Round 2 of the ProMX Championship, taking place at Appin, NSW on Sunday 13th April.
Podiums And International Success For Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki At ProMx Wonthaggi
The Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki Team (Empire Kawasaki) have launched a successful start to the 2025 ProMX Championship at Wonthaggi, Victoria, with MX1 rider Luke clout securing 3rd Overall and MXW rider Taylah McCutcheon’s results assisting Team Australia in winning the FIM Women’s Oceania MX Cup.
After posting the 3rd fastest time in Kawasaki MX1 Qualifying on Saturday, Luke Clout would push himself in the Sunday morning superpole session, where a crash in his opening hot lap would relegate him to the 8th fastest time heading into the gate drops.
After a fantastic start in the Opening moto and challenging for the lead position in the first lap, Clout settled into 3rd position, logging clean laps before being challenging late in the moto and crossing the finish line in 4th position to start the season.
In moto 2, another good start and solid track position was disrupted by an early race crash, which subsequently saw Clout launch a monumental charge from outside the top 10, climbing all the way back to 4th position at the finish.
With 4-4 Moto scores, Clout claimed 3rd Overall on the day;
“I am happy with our progress today and the team and I picked up right where we left off at the end of ProMX last season, on the podium. Wonthaggi is an extremely challenging track and we really made positive progress with the bike over the weekend. I have some things to clean up with my riding before Appin in a few weeks, but overall we are in a great place for the Championship leaving Round 1,” commented Clout.
In the MX2 Class, Ryan Alexanderson debuted on the Empire Kawasaki KX250 to 7th Overall, posting 11-5 moto scores. In a day of what could have been, an unfortunate time penalty in the opening moto saw Alexanderson relegated from his on track 6th position to 11th due to the penalty.
“ Today was a little frustrating as I would have posted two very strong finishes and landed higher up in the overall results, but I’m happy to debut for Empire Kawasaki with strong finishes and something to build on for Appin”, said Alexanderson.
Taylah McCutcheon relished in the double duty across the MXW Class and the FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup. McCutcheon would factor into the lead battles and her performance helped Team Australia take out Victory in the inaugural international event, held on Australian Soil.
Landing in 6th overall in the MXW Class across the split moto weekend format, McCutcheon is wanting more as MXW skips a round and returns at Gillman, SA for Round 3.
“To help Team Australia take victory at Wonthaggi was an amazing experience and I couldn’t be prouder of what we were able to achieve. I’m a little frustrated that a few small issues in the MXW Class moto’s hindered my results to 6th Overall, but it’s still a solid start to the season for the team and I”, concluded McCutcheon.
The enhanced Kawasaki presence for 2025 was clearly visible at Wothaggi, with the Penrite Racing GO24 Team Green racing program led by Brett Metcalfe, the Kawasaki Australia MX1 Class sponsorship and the Team Green supported Joel Evans landing in 12th Overall in MX1.
Kawasaki Australia now set focus on Round 2 of the ProMX Championship, taking place at Appin, NSW on Sunday 13th April.
