Podiums And International Success For Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki At ProMx Wonthaggi
The Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki Team (Empire Kawasaki) have launched a successful start to the 2025 ProMX Championship at Wonthaggi, Victoria, with MX1 rider Luke clout securing 3rd Overall and MXW rider Taylah McCutcheon’s results assisting Team Australia in winning the FIM Women’s Oceania MX Cup.
After posting the 3rd fastest time in Kawasaki MX1 Qualifying on Saturday, Luke Clout would push himself in the Sunday morning superpole session, where a crash in his opening hot lap would relegate him to the 8th fastest time heading into the gate drops.
After a fantastic start in the Opening moto and challenging for the lead position in the first lap, Clout settled into 3rd position, logging clean laps before being challenging late in the moto and crossing the finish line in 4th position to start the season.
In moto 2, another good start and solid track position was disrupted by an early race crash, which subsequently saw Clout launch a monumental charge from outside the top 10, climbing all the way back to 4th position at the finish.
With 4-4 Moto scores, Clout claimed 3rd Overall on the day;
“I am happy with our progress today and the team and I picked up right where we left off at the end of ProMX last season, on the podium. Wonthaggi is an extremely challenging track and we really made positive progress with the bike over the weekend. I have some things to clean up with my riding before Appin in a few weeks, but overall we are in a great place for the Championship leaving Round 1,” commented Clout.
In the MX2 Class, Ryan Alexanderson debuted on the Empire Kawasaki KX250 to 7th Overall, posting 11-5 moto scores. In a day of what could have been, an unfortunate time penalty in the opening moto saw Alexanderson relegated from his on track 6th position to 11th due to the penalty.
“ Today was a little frustrating as I would have posted two very strong finishes and landed higher up in the overall results, but I’m happy to debut for Empire Kawasaki with strong finishes and something to build on for Appin”, said Alexanderson.
Taylah McCutcheon relished in the double duty across the MXW Class and the FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup. McCutcheon would factor into the lead battles and her performance helped Team Australia take out Victory in the inaugural international event, held on Australian Soil.
Landing in 6th overall in the MXW Class across the split moto weekend format, McCutcheon is wanting more as MXW skips a round and returns at Gillman, SA for Round 3.
“To help Team Australia take victory at Wonthaggi was an amazing experience and I couldn’t be prouder of what we were able to achieve. I’m a little frustrated that a few small issues in the MXW Class moto’s hindered my results to 6th Overall, but it’s still a solid start to the season for the team and I”, concluded McCutcheon.
The enhanced Kawasaki presence for 2025 was clearly visible at Wothaggi, with the Penrite Racing GO24 Team Green racing program led by Brett Metcalfe, the Kawasaki Australia MX1 Class sponsorship and the Team Green supported Joel Evans landing in 12th Overall in MX1.
Kawasaki Australia now set focus on Round 2 of the ProMX Championship, taking place at Appin, NSW on Sunday 13th April.
Jet Alsop Lands 3rd Overall At ProMX Season Opener Wonthaggi
Jet Alsop debuted his Ride Red Honda CRF250R to unanimous success at the Opening Round of the 2025 ProMX Championship, where a challenging Wonthaggi track was tamed by a consistent day of speed, landing Jet in 3rd Overall.
Finding speed and comfort from the beginning of the weekend, a confident MX3 Qualifying session placed Jet with the 2nd fastest time across the two groups of riders heading into Sunday’s races.
In the opening moto, a start at the backside of the top 10 saw Jet charge through the field, establishing 3rd place by the latter stages of the moto, maintaining the podium finish to the chequered flag.
In moto 2, a team decision was made to switch from the Michelin Sand tyre to the Michelin Mud tyre, a call that was rewarded with a great start and opening lap track position. Pushing through battles at the spring part of the race, Alsop once again established 3rd in the moto and consistently logged laps to score 3-3 motos and 3rd Overall on the day.
“My goal for Round 1 was to show the speed we have on the Honda but to also be consistent and build a base for this season and the MX3 Championship.”
“We achieved that and I am happy to have a podium to build from to start the season. I want to thank Honda, the JP MX Development team and all of our sponsors for the unwavering support in making this podium happen at Wonthaggi,” commented Alsop.
Jet Alsop now focuses on Round 2 of the ProMX Championship, taking place at Appin, NSW on Sunday 13th April.
Rogers Takes CMC Racing To MX1 Superpole and 6th Overall At ProMX Wonthaggi
The Caloundra Motorcycle Centre (CMC) Racing Team kicked off the 2025 ProMX Championship with great success, as MX1 Rider Levi Rogers excelled on his return to racing for the team following injury in 2024.
Rogers set the 8th fastest time in the MX1 Superpole session as the lead Privateer against the Factory teams and maintained this momentum throughout the day, excelling on the sandy Wonthaggi circuit to post 8-6 moto scores and 6th Overall on the day.
“The track was tough today but I really enjoyed the conditions and it suited my riding. I found a flow in both motos and in the last race I had a great start that allowed me to go with the lead group.”
“I want to thank Zac from Caloundra Motorcycle Centre and all of our team partners, we have a great bike and group around us this year and I’m excited for the rest of the Championship”, commented Rogers.
MX2 rider Sam Larsen, current MX2 Thailand Motocross Championship leader, struggled to adapt to riding back on ProMX conditions after time racing overseas. Lodging 18-21 moto scores, Larsen would claim 23rd overall with lots to work on before Appin.
“We flew in yesterday from Thailand and honestly it was just a shock how rough the track was after spending time in Thailand racing on their tracks. I enjoyed the day with the team, my bike felt great but we will get some bike time before Appin and be ready to go”, said Larsen.
Across the MX3 Class, two groups of Qualifying led to a steep learning curve for Class rookies Adison Treeby, Hayden and Lochy Roche across the weekend on the black sand of Wonthaggi, where the goal to work on Qualifying times will be priority heading into Appin.
Team Green supported Kawasaki mounted Joel Evans also debuted under CMC Racing support at Wonthaggi, the Privateer To Pro fan favourite also returning from the Thailand National Championship to finish 12th Overall in MX1.
“I honestly haven’t ridden a rut for about 6 weeks so yesterday I was way off the pace, but we improved the bike each time we hit the track along with my results. This is the best race day support I’ve had around me with Zac and CMC Racing and I’m excited to see what we can achieve for the 25’ Championship”, concluded Evans.
CMC Racing now focuses their attention on Round 2 of the ProMX Championship, taking place at Appin, NSW on Sunday 13th April.
