Deacon Sets The ProMX Paice For Moto 1 Motorcycles KTM

The Moto1 Motorcycles KTM Team kick started the 2024 ProMX MX3 Class Championship at Wonthaggi, with young WA signing Deacon Paice showing incredible speed and track position from the moment bikes hit the track for qualifying, backing that up with consistent Moto scores and a career best overall finish.

Paice would start the day strong as the fastest rider in Group 2 of the MX3 Class, with a blistering lap time setting him up with a great gate pick for the opening Moto of the day.

Following a great start in Moto 1, Paice would settle into the Top 3 early in the race, logging consistent laps and keeping in vision of the leaders. At the mid way point of the Moto, he would begin to tighten up and succumb to pressure from behind, crossing the finish in a respectful 7th place.

After cooling off and hydrating heading into Moto 2, Paice would rocket out of the gate to claim the Holeshot and lead the opening laps with style. Once passed for the lead, he would settle into 2nd position for the majority of the Moto before a late race charge from his competitors would see Paice claim 4th position in the Moto and 5th overall for Round 1.

“Today was a great step for me and the Team”, commented Paice.

“I felt great as soon as we hit the track for qualifying, my bike felt fast and handled great in the sand. Today was the first time I’ve lead a national race and been in the battle from the gate drop in both Moto’s. I rode tight at times and held my breath, but I know what we need to work on heading into Round 2 and leaving with 5th Overall is a great start to the season”, concluded Paice.

Zac O’Loan would not fare as well in the challenging Wonthaggi sand and never found his flow at Round 1. In a day marred by crashes and bad starts, Zac would score 32-DNF Moto’s, leaving Wonthaggi with a better understanding of the rough ProMX tracks and intense racing in the 24’ MX3 season.

“I struggled today and didn’t find my flow during the races. Bad starts, mid pack crashes and a frustrating day for me. I’ll be back and ready for Round 2 in the coming weeks”, said O’Loan.
