Connor Towill Moves To 3rd In SX3 Championship Following Newcastle
Consistent Hometown Supercross Moves Towill To 3rd In SX3 Championship
Connor Towill and the CT22 Racing Program came into Newcastle for Round 2 of the SX3 Australian Supercross Championship with the added excitement of it being Connor’s hometown race.
With both KTM Newcastle and Chris Woods Performance located just minutes from the stadium, the anticipation to deliver a good show for the hometown support team added much excitement to the orange #22 hitting the track.
After a solid practice and qualifying session on a very challenging race track, Connor lined up for Main Event #1. Unfortunately disaster struck where a flat rear tyre off the start grid forced Connor into survival race to start the night, where incredibly he managed to pull off an impressive 5th position.
Main Event #2 provided more drama as Connor collided with another rider on the opening lap and was forced to fight his way through the pack in the short double header racing format. Connor showed great speed and race craft to claw his way back to 3rd position by the mid race point, before again coming together with another rider, relegating him to 8th position at the chequered flag.
“I was incredibly excited to race at Newcastle in front of my hometown supporters. We were presented with a very challenging track that was hard packed and triggered a lot of mistakes in the SX3 field. I felt great all day on the track, but unfortunately the short races in the back to back format forced a lot of mistakes from other riders. Between my flat tyre and getting caught up in other riders’ mistakes, the night really didn’t go to plan.” commented Connor.
“On the plus side I feel like I showed great speed and consistency on a challenging track and this paid off in regards to the Championship, as we nowhead into the Final Round this weekend in podium contention”, concluded Connor.
