Whalley Claims Back-To-Back SSMX Championships For Moto1 Motorcycles KTM
Darci Whalley has taken her Moto1 Motorcycles KTM to Back-To-Back Sunshine State Motocross Championship #1 plates in the MXW Class, claiming both the Overall Round win at Rockhampton and the 2025 MXW Class Championship.
After claiming her first Championship in 2024, Whalley was able to achieve repeat victory with the expansion of the SSMX Championship from a regional South East QLD series in 2024, to becoming the official QLD State Championship, with additional rounds of racing and travel in 2025.
“It’s an amazing feeling to win this Championship for the second time in a row and I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support around me from my family and Moto1 Motorcycles KTM”.
“I knew with the added rounds of racing, travel and additional competitors this year that it would not be easy to defend the #1 plate and I’m happy we could get the job done.”
“I am looking forward to taking this momentum into the final two rounds of ProMX, starting this weekend at Toowoomba”, commented Whalley.
Alongside Whalley, Moto1 Motorcycles KTM Junior Development Team riders Joe Thurlby and Rowdy Rabjones would both finish their respective 65cc Classes on the Championship podium.
Joe Thurlby had a strong finish to the season with 2nd Overall in the 65cc 7-U10 Class en route to claiming 2nd in the SSMX Championship for the 2025 season, just 2 points shy of the #1 plate at the conclusion of the season.
For Rabjones, a hard fought day saw him claim the final step of the 65cc 10-U12 class with 3rd in the 2025 Championship.
Shane Fretwell, owner of Moto1 Motorcycles commented on the conclusion of the Sunshine State MX Championship;
“I am thrilled to see Darcy take out another Championship under the Moto1 Motorcycles Team and it is a testament to her hard work continually developing her racing and career. We look forward to seeing her take this form to the ProMX Championship over the next few weekends”.
“Our Junior Development program has been a huge success in our first official year working with a fantastic group of talented juniors and their families. To see their hard work and dedication pay off with Championship podiums for Rowdy and Joe is fantastic. Our 50cc rider Darby also had a big year pushing through injury and his determination really shine through for us”.
“We are looking forward to returning with our Junior Development Team in 2026 along with continuing to invest and support in local racing across great Championships such as SSMX”.
The Moto1 Motorcycles KTM Development program now shifts focus to the Final Rounds of the ProMX Championship kicking off on Sunday 27th June at Toowoomba, with Whalley competing in the MXW Class, where she currently sits 5th in the Championship points.
